Mary and Ryan’s rainy engagement session in Old Town Alexandria might be one of my all time favorites. Despite the rainy weather, we had so much fun and we created some gorgeous, romantic portraits for them to celebrate this special time. From the first time I met Mary and Ryan, I knew we would get along well. These two are warm, open, and funny people – and the love they share is SO real and true. I’m so honored they trusted me during their session.

We started their session off at Vola’s Dockside Grill. Mary and Ryan were able to just relax and enjoy a drink. They laughed together and we got nice and warm before heading out into the rain. I love that Mary and Ryan didn’t let some rain ruin their session. In fact, they leaned into it. They weren’t shy one bit about their feelings and I seriously loved it. We created some romantic moments under the clear umbrellas all around Old Town. And at the end of their session along the water, we TOTALLY channeled “The Notebook” for some photos. I think they’re some of my favorite moments.

As we walked, I got to learn more about Mary and Ryan. They met while they were in college – living in the same dorm building. How sweet is that! Now, they love to travel and spend time with their family (especially their dog!). Mary and Ryan’s love runs deep and it’s amazing to watch them together. Before our session, I asked them each what they loved most about the other. Mary said she loves Ryan’s “intelligence and his generous heart,” while Ryan said he loves Mary’s “depth and passion.” I can’t get enough of them!!

I can’t wait to see Mary and Ryan again this fall for their Torpedo Factory wedding. I know it’s going to be just beautiful. Congratulations again, Mary and Ryan!!!

Life is simply a series of moments. It’s my honor to pay attention and use film to capture them.
